Assistant Service Manager- Vertical Machining Centers (VMC)

The Assistant VMC Service Manager will be responsible for supporting all technical service aspects of the VMC (WELE Products) product line with JTAM’s Service Technicians, Dealers, and Customers.


Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Provide Technical Support to Service Technicians, Dealers and Customers.
  • Interface between JTAM and WELE factory (VMC Manufacturer) on all technical issue resolution and quality feedback.
  • Coordinating all Field Service activity for VMC products. Interacts with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure that all open issues are resolved.
  • Compiles all VMC Registration Paperwork and follows-up with Dealers on Monthly Feedback Reports (Track / Report Quality Control & Performance Improvements).
  • Teaches VMC Maintenance Training Classes (Dealer & Customer) at Arlington Heights.
  • Trains VMC service personnel.
  • Create and publish VMC Technical Bulletins and training documents as required.
  • Work with Parts Department to coordinate field service calls with parts deliveries.
  • Execute other tasks as required.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Assistant VMC Service Manager has no permanent personnel supervisory responsibilities, but (s)he supervises training of others and has direct responsibility of short/long term projects and their strategic objectives.



The Assistant VMC Service Manager must be flexible for company funded travel during 15% to 20% of her/his typical work week.  Travel would mostly consist of training trips to Taiwan, working with WELE engineers during their visits to North American customers and occasional Emergency Field Service calls as required.


Required Knowledge Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to provide valid proof of identity and valid United States work authorization documentation.
  • Ability to successfully complete a company-paid drug test and pre-employment baseline physical.
  • Hearing, color vision, and the ability to push at least 100 pounds and lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate ancillary equipment, tools, and office equipment.
  • Ability to climb/descend ladders, the ability to bend/twist, and the ability to squat/stretch.
  • Written and verbal communication skills in the English language, including ability to communicate with C-level executives.
  • Attention to detail, self-motivation, organization, and the ability to process confidential information.
  • Ability to interpret technical engineering documents (schematic drawings, machine/part blueprints, etc.).
  • Electrical and mechanical aptitude and machining fundamentals.
  • Written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin languages.


Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.)
  • Valid driver/operator license that grants the availability for unrestricted travel
  • 2+ year(s) of experience with the Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • 5+ year(s) of experience with training, mentoring or coaching others in relation to advanced manufacturing concepts
  • 5+ year(s) of experience with close-tolerance machining and related metrology, in addition to CNC and PLC programming
  • 5+ year(s) of experience with repair and/or fabrication of mechanical assemblies in a machine shop environment
  • 5+ year(s) of experience with repair of full CNC product line (machining centers, rail guided vehicles, grinding machines, etc.)
  • 5+ year(s) of experience with support and/or development of documentation for field installation of CNC products
  • Prior application of the appropriate education, experience, and licensing to the Toyoda product line is highly desired
  • Valid documentation that grants the availability for international travel by land and/or air is highly desired
  • Post-secondary certificate or licensing in a skilled trade related to machine tool technology is highly desired
  • Baccalaureate degree in maintenance technology, engineering, or other applicable discipline is highly desired
